Types of Hire
We offer two main types of private driver hire in Sri Lanka: Round Trip Hire and One-Way Hire. Each option suits different travel needs and budgets.
Round Trip Hire (Multi-Day Travel)
Ideal for multi-day journeys across the island. Drivers are trained and licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and can also serve as tour guides at major tourist attractions.
Costs
Average total daily cost ranges from 55 to 65 USD
Daily minimum distance: Most drivers require a minimum of 150 km per day, calculated cumulatively.
- Example: 6 days × 150 km/day = 900 km total inclusive distance. Occasional days exceeding 150 km are permitted where necessary.
Additional Charges
You are responsible for the driver’s accommodation and dinner, unless provided by your hotel.
This may cost up to $17 (5000 LKR per night), depending on location and season.
One-Way Hire (Point-to-Point Travel)
Best suited for single-day trips or direct transfers. The driver will return to their base after dropping you off.
Costs
Higher rate per km: Typically 120–140 LKR/km, but can be as low as 100 LKR/km for trips over 250 km.
The driver covers their own meals and accommodation if staying overnight.
Considerations
You’ll need to arrange and pay separately for local transportation (taxis, tuk tuks) at your destination.
This can add up, especially in popular tourist areas.
When to Choose This Option
In some cases, booking multiple one-way hires can be more cost-effective than a round trip.
