There are essentially 5 main types of driver in Sri Lanka; National tourist guide lecturer, Chauffeur tour guide lecturer, Area Tourist guide lecturer, Tourist driver, Tour Operators
National tourist guide lecturer
A licensed professionals certified by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). They offer the highest standard of service, with extensive training in history, culture, and heritage. Uniquely qualified, they are authorized to both drive and conduct guided tours at attractions across the island.
Chauffeur tour guide lecturer
A licensed professionals certified by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). They offer the highest standard of service, with extensive training in history, culture, and heritage. Uniquely qualified, they are authorized to both drive and conduct guided tours at attractions across the island.
Area Tourist guide lecturer
An Area Tourist Guide Lecturer is a professional who trains and educates individuals to become tourist guides for a specific region or area.
Tourist driver
Tourist Drivers, also known as Tourist Chauffeurs, are certified by the Tourism Development Authority. While they are not authorized to provide official guided tours, they possess strong local knowledge and language skills, often surpassing general Tourist Guides. They can arrange professional site guides for an additional fee.
Tour Operators
These are smaller companies that offer competitive prices. They have trusted profiles with at least 5 genuine reviews and have been active for 6 months or more on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, their own website.
